Efficient logistics 24 hours a day
Most of Inex’s logistics work is carried out in Espoo, at the Kilo logistics centre, which has a warehousing area of 10 hectares. Processed foodstuffs, daily non-food and processed fresh products as well as fruit and vegetables are collected and combined into store-specific deliveries throughout Finland. The Kilo logistics centre utilizes voice-controlled picking. It reduces picking errors and improves the ergonomy and work safety of picking work. The Kilo logistics centre operates around the clock including weekends.
Products are delivered to stores from Kilo either directly or via terminals. Perishable products, such as meat and milk, are delivered directly via terminals to stores. The Southern Finland terminal operates within the Kilo logistics centre. Goods are delivered by truck around Finland and distributed to stores at night, thus avoiding congestion on the roads and at shop delivery doors. Shelves can then be restocked before opening time. All shipments are thermally regulated and the cold chain is intact at all stages of the delivery.
Inex’s logistics centre for speciality products is located in Hakkila, Vantaa. From there, household, clothing and leisure products, hardware and agricultural goods and spare parts are delivered to S Group stores. The 4-hectare Hakkila logistics centre uses a conveyor sorter. Hakkila also has a processing centre, where store preparations are made: packaging material removed, security tags and hangers fitted etc.

Efficient terminal networkIn addition to its logistics centres, Inex has 12 grocery terminals, of which some are Inex’s own terminals and some are subcontracted from transport companies on a subcontracting basis. The terminals are used to distribute regional meat and dairy products, sometimes other local products, too. Products remain in terminals for a short time, because they are only combined there into store-specific consignments and distributed to stores at night. |
