Creating new PL products
The impulse to create a new private label product may come from an Inex product group manager, a chain, a supplier or even a customer-owner. When the decision to develop a new product has been made, quality criteria are specified and invitations to tender sent to suppliers.
Product samples received in connection with offers are evaluated and always compared to existing products on the market in order to highlight actual characteristics and differences. In the selection process, healthiness and Finnish taste preferences in particular are taken into account. Within Inex, Sourcing, Quality Assurance and Product Evaluation participate in product selection. In addition to quality, the selection is influenced by price, delivery reliability, logistics issues etc.
When the supplier and product have been decided, packaging design is initiated in cooperation with an advertising agency. Quality Assurance is responsible for package markings, and Product Assessment contributes preparation instructions and recipes, if necessary. When the proofs have been checked, the packaging printed, the product manufactured, packed and delivered, then comes the culmination of the project: a new product appears on the store shelves.
